A Praia do Tofo, na província de Inhambane, foi palco entre os dias 23 a 25 de Setembro, do Tofo Surf Series 2023, uma competição de surf, que envolve atletas não só de Inhambane, como de outros pontos do País, com o propósito social de promover o desporto e impulsionar a economia local.
O evento colocou frente-a-frente surfistas de seis categorias diferentes, nomeadamente sub-14, sub-16, sub-18, open masculino, open feminino e longboard.
De acordo com o DE, composta por três etapas ao longo do ano, a competição teve início em Abril, com a terceira e grande final programada para decorrer entre 16 e 18 de Dezembro, onde os atletas que acumularem mais pontos ao longo das três fases serão coroados vencedores nas suas respectivas categorias.
A prova contou com a participação de cerca de 70 atletas, a maioria deles originários da praia do Tofo e alguns da Ponta do Ouro e da cidade de Maputo, o Tofo Surf Series demonstrou mais uma vez a vitalidade da comunidade de surf em Moçambique.
O sucesso deste projecto social depende de patrocinadores generosos, com todas as pessoas envolvidas, excepto os juízes, a contribuírem voluntariamente para o seu êxito. Empresas locais também estão envolvidas, sublinhando o impacto positivo deste evento na economia da pequena vila do Tofo.
Para Bruno Lopes, presidente da Associação de Surf de Moçambique (TOBAN), “este evento é um marco nacional. O Tofo Surf Series tem como objectivo melhorar a economia da nossa vila, dar visibilidade aos nossos atletas e, quem sabe, abrir portas para uma carreira profissional”, disse.
O Tofo Surf Series 2023 está a ser uma vitória para a comunidade de surf de Moçambique, com a união de atletas, entusiastas e apoiantes em torno do desporto e do espírito de competição, rumo à grande final em Dezembro.
