Estão criadas as condições para o arranque da exploração e produção de Gás Natural Liquefeito (GNL), a partir do primeiro semestre de 2022, na bacia do Rovuma, província de Cabo Delgado, com a conclusão da construção da Plataforma Flutuante de Gás Natural Liquefeito (FLNG), que partiu segunda-feira, 15 de Novembro, dos estaleiros da divisão industrial da Samsung, em Geoje, Coreia do Sul, com destino a Moçambique. A plataforma, que estará ancorada ao largo da costa de Cabo Delgado e cuja construção iniciou em 2017, conta com 432 metros de comprimento e possui depósitos de armazenamento no casco e 13 módulos por cima deles, incluindo uma fábrica de liquefacção, um módulo de oito andares, onde podem viver 350 pessoas, e uma pista para helicópteros.
Esta é a primeira e maior plataforma de gás em águas profundas em África, e resulta de um investimento de aproximadamente 8 biliões de dólares norte-americanos. A sua chegada ao País e o consequente arranque da exploração e produção de GNL vai marcar o início de uma nova era em Moçambique, que deverá posicionar-se como produtor e fornecedor regional e global deste importante recurso energético
A sua construção contou com o financiamento do Standard Bank, o único banco nacional envolvido nesta operação e o maior credor do projecto, em conjunto com o Banco Industrial e Comercial da China (ICBC), que detém 20% das acções do Grupo Standard Bank.
A participação do Standard Bank nesta operação, que vai ajudar Moçambique a retomar o ritmo acelerado de crescimento, reflecte o poder da sua parceria para impulsionar o crescimento do País, e resulta do seu compromisso de, a longo prazo, apoiar consistentemente o potencial de Moçambique como um futuro gigante de produção e exportação de gás natural offshore.
