Desde o início das nossas operações, nosso objetivo tem sido causar um impacto ambiental mínimo, manter as comunidades em ambientes favoráveis e evitar desastres naturais causados por acções do homem. O ganho econômico não pode ser feito à custa do meio ambiente em que vivemos”, destacou o Diretor Corporativo da MRM, Raime Raimundo, sobre as ações tomadas pela mineradora em prol da conservação ambiental.
Além disso, tendo em conta o valor e a escassez de água nos furos em operação, em 2022, a MRM criou reservatórios de águas pluviais, para reduzir a pressão sobre o lençol freático. Desde o início de 2023, 80% da água utilizada na planta de processamento vem de reservatórios de águas pluviais e os 20% restantes dos furos.
Além de equilibrar e reduzir a pressão sobre o lençol freático, os reservatórios de águas pluviais garantem que as operações da empresa funcionem a 100%, mesmo no período de seca.
A MRM também investiu um total de USD 300.000 em financiamento para parceiros de conservação: Parque Nacional das Quirimbas e Reserva Nacional do Niassa, de 2018 a 2020; com mais USD 150.000 comprometidos durante 2021-2024 para projetos semelhantes.
