Moçambique dispõe de pelo menos um grande depósito de ouro na província de Cabo Delgado revelou Azghar Faqhr, director-geral da Mwiriti, Lda, empresa moçambicana que tem uma participação na Montepuez Ruby Mining.
Azghar Faqhr, citado pelo jornal moçambicano O País, disse que os primeiros resultados das prospecções efectuadas indicam que a depósito de ouro encontrado naquela província é cerca de seis vezes maior do que os descobertos na África do Sul.
Além da quantidade de mineral existente, o depósito é considerado especial devido a ocorrência de ouro com um grau elevado de pureza, qualificado pela empresa como o mais elevado de Moçambique.
“O ouro extraído em Nairoto é de 22 quilates, isto é, sai da terra com um grau de pureza entre 86% a 91%, ultrapassando o que é explorado na província de Manica”, comparou Azghar Faqhr.
O depósito de ouro está localizada no distrito de Montepuez, no posto administrativo de Nairoto, onde já foi instalado um pequeno complexo mineiro, tendo o director-geral revelado que desde o início das prospecções, em 2015, a empresa já despendeu mais de 11 milhões de dólares, mais de metade aplicada na compra e instalação de equipamentos no local da futura unidade de processamento do minério.
A Mwiriti Lda. detém uma participação de 25% na Montepuez Ruby Mining, que detém uma concessão em Cabo Delgado para a exploração de rubis, em que a empresa britânica Gemfields, que desde Julho de 2017 pertence ao grupo Pallinghurst, funciona como operadora.
