O Standard Bank, um dos maiores bancos comerciais que opera em Moçambique, foi suspenso nesta segunda-feira, pelo Banco de Moçambique de toda a actividade cambial e de conversão de divisas por um período de um ano, devido a várias infracções de natureza fraudulenta.
Trata-se da manipulação da taxa de câmbio, a instalação e implementação de uma rede de pagamentos ilegal sediada fora do país, a não regularização dos termos de compromisso das exportações e não entrega ao Banco de Moçambique de gravações nos prazos estipulados, em clara acção de obstrução à actividade de inspecção, descreve o Banco Central em comunicado.
A decisão resulta da inspecção que vinha sendo realizada no Standard Bank, que detectou, cinco aspectos que violam as regras de funcionamento impostas pela legislação moçambicana.
Para além da suspensão, o Standard Bank deverá pagar uma multa de 290 milhões de meticais.
De realçar que as medidas anunciadas culminam de uma ivestigação iniciada no mês passado e que tinha levado a uma suspensão preventida do Standard Bank, que gerou constrangimentos nos clientes com contas em moeda estrangeira.
